What it's all about...

I'm a 39 year old wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt & friend. That should tell you who I'll be writing about most of the time.

Fun Times

Last Thursday was Shell's birthday. She is now the same age as me, at least for the next 7 weeks until my birthday. I got her a few DVD's that she wanted, and went in to work late that morning to "celebrate" with her. We went out on Saturday for the actual celebrating. My girl spent the night at my parents house and the boy spent the night at Dana's. After dropping him off and picking Dana & Jeannie up, we drove downtown for dinner at Old Chicago. Some of Shell's coworkers met us there and after dinner we headed for Charlie's. It is a gay bar and is her favorite place to go. It works out really well because they have two dancefloors, one that caters to the country listening crowd and the other is for the dance music lovers. Once there, we met up with even more people from her work. We had some drinks, Long Beach Iced Teas for me - I LOVE THEM! - and we danced. A lot. It was so much fun. We left when the bar closed at 2 and went to Village Inn to eat. After dropping Dana & Jeannie off at their house, we went home. It was 4:00am! But oh boy was it worth it. I spent a lot of time talking to Dana, and I'm glad. I don't get a lot of opportunity to do that, and after talking to her I hope we get the chance again soon. She is the closest friend that my wife has, and it's nice to be able to share a bit with her.

I had hoped that Sunday would be a do-nothing day, but it was not to be. Dana woke us up when she brought our boy home, around 10ish. I started working on laundry and Shell started getting ready for the baby shower she was going to. I took the boy to a birthday party he was invited to, and then we picked up the girl from her time away with Dammy. (That's what the kids call my mom instead of Grandma) We went home and ate dinner, and the kids watched the Bee Movie and Shell & I watched Why Did I Get Married? I thought it was good. The kids loved the Bee Movie, I might watch it tonight. I started a membership with Blockbuster for their Netflix-style movie rentals and got those two movies and Waitress. For Shell's birthday I bought her August Rush, Death Proof and Planet Terror. So we will be watching a lot of movies. I am looking forward to getting caught up on movie watching.

We also watched The L Word last night. There is only one more episode left this season and then next season will be the last. To say that I am sad about this is an understatement. I will really miss our Sunday nights watching it together. I think we will have to buy the seasons on DVD and just start over again.

Summer plans & some other stuff

Yes, it is only the middle of March and we are making our plans for the summer. And before. We have spent a TON of money this week, with nothing tangible to show for it. Let me back up a bit before going into all that.

Saturday we went to my company's annual party. We were all dressed up really nice. And the dress I wore looked pretty good actually. We had our pictures taken, I can't wait to see them. The kids both had their caricatures done. And we ate really good food. All the employees got $50 gift checks and I got a 5 Year Plaque. Plus, we won the centerpiece that was on our table. It is always fun to see my co-workers outside of the office, especially the other women who work in our Colorado Springs office. The kids have a blast walking around and talking to everyone. They are always on their best behavior and I get many compliments on them. I NEVER get tired of that!
We went grocery shopping Sunday morning and then picked up Chinese food and headed over to my parents house. Asia is the same, which is good for now. There is really nothing that can be done, so it's just a wait and see until she is obviously suffering. We're sad. Mom and I sat down with the calendar to set some tentative dates for this summers California trip. More on that later. And she agreed to keep the kids for us on Saturday night so we can go out to celebrate Shell's birthday. Yay!
So what did we spend so much money on?? Well, I booked Shell's flight to Las Vegas next month. She is going out to see her mom and help her find a place to live in Orange County. And to see her nieces and nephews and her niece's baby. She is very excited, and I kind of am too. She will be gone for 4 1/2 days, and although I will miss her a lot, I hope to get some things accomplished to surprise her. We'll see.
Money also spent on... Margaret Cho tickets!!! We are going to see her on May 3, which is our wedding anniversary. And even more exciting... we bought our True Colors show tickets!. Coming to Red Rocks this year with the True Colors tour is Cyndi Lauper, B-52's, Carson Kressley, Joan Armatrading, Nona Hendryx and ROSIE O'DONNELL. I'm just a little excited, can you tell? So that will be July 5, which is 2 weeks after PrideFest. I can't wait!

It's Only Tuesday

What has happened since my last post....

My boy had his progress check for Karate on Saturday. He passed. So he will test for his High Brown belt in April. He is very excited. I didn't take any pictures during his test. Bad mommy!

I took my car on Sunday to get new tires. All 4 of them. It was long overdue. After leaving my car, we went shopping at Kohl's. They were having lots of sales. We had to get a birthday gift for my niece's 1st Birthday and some clothes for us. On Saturday we are going to my company's annual dinner/party. It is the 25th year we have been in business, so it is a little more formal then it has been in years past. So Shell decided that we needed some new clothes. I bought a dress! I'm still kind of freaking out about it. I haven't worn a dress in years. I think the last time was for our wedding actually. And after shopping we went to Old Chicago for dinner. It was a VERY expensive day, but so much fun. I hate clothes shopping for me, but when I'm with her I don't mind it so much. She pretty much picks stuff out, I try it on and she approves or vetoes. It's perfect.

We watched 2 episodes of The L Word on Sunday night. Enough said.

This morning I had a dentist appointment. I had to get 4 fillings. After not going to a dentist for 5 years, that was my consequence. Well, that and I have to go back in a couple of weeks for a deep cleaning. The fillings were not so bad, but he said that I will probably be sore for about a day. When the numbness started to wear off I took some ibuprofen, so I'm not hurting right now. Hopefully I can either stay ahead of it, or it really won't be so bad.

I talked to my mom yesterday and they have new dog drama. Their Shar-Pei Asia has cancer. They noticed a lump on her leg a week ago and went to the vet to have it checked. They determined that it was a mass and not fluid, but recommended taking her to a specialist to have it diagnosed. In the 4 days between appointments, it more than doubled in size. The specialist at first recommended amputating the leg, but after checking her over found the cancer cells in her lungs as well. Apparently she has a very aggresive strain that probably would not respond to radiation therapy. She doesn't seem to be in any pain right now, and they did give her medication to hopefully reduce the swelling around the mass on her leg. But it's just a matter of time now. No telling how long until things get bad enough to have to decide what's best for her. Shell is very sad. She really loves that dog. The kids know and they are sad too. They want to go see her this weekend. I think we probably will.

On a side note - I bought the new Janet Jackson CD on Friday. It is quite enjoyable. She is one talented (and hot!) woman. The kids don't want to listen to the CD when they are in the car though, because they don't know the words to sing along. I also bought the 25th Anniversary release of Thriller. That one we listen to with the volume turned UP and singing at the top of our lungs. I love it. I also bought the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band CD. I have always loved that album, but never owned it on CD. It was only $9.99, so I picked it up as well. I am LOVING my new music options!
